The exhibition project Hats Off, in addition to the established idiom representing a non-verbal expression of respect is also linked to one of the most important figures in the 20th century visual art, Joseph Beuys. On May 12, the day of the opening of the exhibition, he’d have celebrated 100 years. On this occasion, numerous commemorative exhibitions and other events are held in his homeland – Germany, but also elsewhere in the world. It won’t be different in VUNU. But Beuys can't just be celebrated. He left behind not only many monumental works, but also a huge tangle of socio-political relations and cultural situations, many of which today face justified criticism. Perhaps Beuys' most famous statement is, "Every human is an artist". But who was Beuys? An artist, a shaman, an activist, a politician, or just a creative marketer and a businessman? We open these and other questions together with the artists at the exhibition dedicated to the anniversary of the man who still stimulates in other people what he had strived for most during his own life – an action.
